Posters? Here are 5 Things To Consider When Designing

Show me someone who claims never to have been drawn to a full-colour, well designed poster and you will probably be getting someone not entirely truthful. Posters help in creating buzz, awareness and excitement about your business or company. Perhaps you have an upcoming event and you need people to “feel” it, as we often say, why don’t you order posters from Kiakiaprint?

We use state-of-the-art machines with global best practices to tap into whatsoever marketing concept you might want to achieve with posters. They are used by brands as a technique of creating a real impression especially when it comes to launching a new period,  awareness or just to promote an upcoming event. As beneficial and important as posters are, there are questions you must ask when designing a poster. We take a look at some of them.

  • Text

Text is very important in any poster and it is perhaps the most deciding factor in enabling your audience understand the message you are trying to pass across. Your font sizes and styles are very important as they can attract or repel a potential customer in an instant. For instance, while trying to promote a discount at your store, ensure that this is the first thing the customer sees. For example, displaying “40% off on shoes”.

Making this particular headline the biggest text of an outdoor poster will help drive customers in because it was conspicuous on the poster, and it was the first thing they’d notice. Also, don’t have text running throughout an image and avoid using dark coloured text on a dark background.

  • Purpose

A major factor one must consider when designing a poster is to define the purpose it is meant to serve. Is it a sales promotion, awareness for an upcoming event, advertisement for an exhibition? The posters must be designed with the purpose in mind. Have clarity on the message, providing details of the date, day, social media handles or other necessary information as you deem fit.

The customer must find it easy to understand the message to be passed across. In addition, your poster resolution must be consistent throughout, so that no matter where it is scaled up or down, it must have the same sharpness no matter the type and size of the poster.

  • Audience

It is kind of bemusing that many business people can’t identify their target audience. You can’t be trying to promote the selling of pre-school forms and then you place your posters in a neighbourhood full of retired people. Research on what certain sections of your target audience like, use and relate to.

This will help your design of the posters. For young people, bold and attractive colours may be good while for the older people, more conservative ideas should be in place. For a poster such as one creating awareness on an event, having a perfect blend of design methods will be required to be able to connect to the audience no matter their age, social status, and likes.

  • Colours and Uses of Images

People tend to see pictures faster than they read text. With this knowledge in mind, your poster must contain a picture that has the highest resolution possible. Images are a great way of making impact with posters and the two are clearly intertwined. Colours are very important in brand promotion as companies and businesses tend to use posters that display their brand colours.

Your colours must be used in such a way that when people see the posters, they automatically associate there colours to your brand. Colours have also have a psychological impact on customers as they can impact our emotion and how we feel. Never use dull colours on an A3 poster for instance.
